IN MEMORY OF CAPTAIN LOU ALBANO

Captain Lou Albano

One of the ALL TIME GREATS, CAPTAIN LOU ALBANO, has passed away ... As a wrestler, manager of The Valliant Brothers, and other great wrestlers, and as an announcer, Mr. Albano has left an indelible impression on me, personally, and on my band, The Dictators.

THE WORD ON THE DICS TRIBUTE SHOW

Five veteran Boston rockers took the stage last Friday night to perform the Dictators' classic Bloodbrothers during an album tribute show. So how did it go? Watch some YouTube clips, see a few photos and read some show chatter on a Boston rock message board.

Then check out the following report from TheDictators.com Beantown correspondent Sal Cincotta:

"We're the Bizarro Dictators!!" Richie Parsons cackled, and in a way, they were. Those of us who have stood as The Few and The Proud to see the real thing were a little confused to see this collection of old Boston rock guys take the stage at Church’s "Classic LP Cover Night" on Fri 8/7. I mean, they weren’t attempting to cover some garden variety band -- they were taking on THE DICTATORS, and their classic Bloodbrothers lp to boot!

Any questions about whether or not they had the collective huevos to pull it off were put to rest the second they ripped into "Faster and Louder." You could feel it as much as hear it -- there was no way the band was going to dishonor the original's by doing it half-assed. Nope, they were going to use their whole asses, and completely commit to the bit.

From BLT through "Slow Death," and into the encores of YFS and "Who Will Save R&R," the energy and enthusiasm never let up. Sure, there were some sloppy transitions and endings, and Richie occasionally messed up the lyrics. In other words, it was just like seeing the real thing.

I'm as passionate a Dic-head as walks the earth, and I gotta give Johnny 1, Johnny 2, Lee, Fritz the Boss, and Handsome Ritchie 7 thumbs up for doing it right. H to G, it was as visceral a thrill as the Dics themselves used to bring. When and if the Dictators ever decide to grant local franchising rights (a la McDonald's) to perpetuate the band, Faster and Louder has Boston covered.

No word yet about future gigs, but guys -- you would be insane NOT to.

THE NEXT BEST THING? DICS TRIBUTE ACT!!

Starved for some live Dictators action? Read on . . .

Five veteran Boston rockers are teaming up as Faster & Louder to play the Bloodbrothers LP during an album tribute night on Friday, Aug. 7, at the Beantown nightclub Church, located in the Fenway at 69 Kilmarnock St. A virtual Who's Who of old school Boston punk, the band features Richie "Swinging Dick" Parsons of Unnatural Axe on vocals, "Fritz the Boss" Erickson of Gang Green on lead guitar, Johnny "Top 20" Black of the Johnny Black Trio on rhythm guitar, and Lee "The Lawman" Harrington and "Johnny Rock" Lynch of the Neighborhoods on bass and drums. The band has the blessings of Adny, Ross the Boss and Top Ten, who has also been providing playing tips to "Top 20" Black. (Handsome Dick Manitoba, however, offers his blessings on the condition that the whole band wears N.Y. Yankee hats.)

Also on the bill will be a second Johnny Lynch combo, Clock Strikes Ten, playing all of Cheap Trick's In Color.
